In Berlin...,oh baby it was paradise

Story added by King Crayola, 21 April 2009

Meine damen und herren

Brilliant news about the bridge lads, ladettes, ladies and ladyboys.

Just back from Berlin where the skyline is a mass of cranes which are rapidly developing and transforming the bo-ho and more edgy parts of the east. Berlin has its own 99 balloon sized problems but a hitch aint one- the development just keeps on developing.

And many tourists from across the world are now descending to see the graffitti scrawled, punk-infested streets of districts like Prenzlauerberg and Freidreichshain, with their flea markets, second hand stores, specialist shops and inventive cafe/ bar scene. There is even a Robot Bar with random toy robots everywhere.

Here, things are looking up and Derry has maybe the best placed team of advocates it ever had in all the right places to help develop the city. It is like a big ripe cherry.

Less reviews of previous reviews of plans and expensive navel gazing reports about the merits of uniting orange voles and green moles,or impact assessments on this, that and the other, please- just send in the diggers and get the things done and keep supporting the artists. They are the people who add the colour to the grey areas of life.

East Berlin no longer seems to be strangled by beaurocracy, lets make sure we contniue to head that way too.

Nice One King Crayola. Your blog made me smile in an otherwise stressfull day. Things are looking up and we do have a good team of advocates. We need more City Champions who need to be more informed about all the good things that are going on such as investment in buildings like the Playhouse, Northern Counties Hotel, An Gaelaris, Nerve Centre etc. Head up, shoulders back and move forward one step at a time.
