In many people's opinions the Brandywell staium is the most vital part of the City, but yet the standard of the stadium is well below average and when it comes to european matches does not meet the standards! I am just writing to push the fact that Derry City FC need a new stadium NOW!

Will I totally agree that DCFC need a greatly upgraded stadium, I think the redevelopment of the stadium is of even more importance as a flagship project for the regeneration of the Brandywell area. If any-one from ILEX/TRIAX etc etc can suggest a better project for the Brandywell I will certainly support it.
Conal McFeely yesterday (03-02-09) confirmed that having murals was important to attracting people to the road entries to Creggan. Surely 2 major stadia - Celtic Park/ Brandywell would greatly increase the footfall to the entire area. If you cannot get people comimg in to Derry via Letterkenny Rd , you will not get them to see area/murals etc
Pre 1985 the term "Brandywell" was linked in outsiders view with "Bogside" and "Troubles".
This was grossly unfair to both areas.
However after 1985 , if you mentioned "Brandywell" to most people in Ireland - and wider if they were interested in sport/changes in society - they thought of DCFC/great crowds/happiness.
It was about the only positive "brand " coming out of Derry at that time.
As every-one from this city knows, Letterkenny Rd was traditionally one of the major access routes to the city. To regenerate the area / change perceptions re Brandywell/Bogside area it is very important that this arterial route into Derry is re-established.
(It is also the quickest route to Foyleside etc for anyone coming from Letterkenny/Non Inishowen Donegal area.)
It appears to me a "no-brainer" that this area needs regeneration at least as much as "Fort George" or "Ebrington" areas
I think all government bodies/quangos/civic interest groups should at least be able to suggest an alternative "flagship" project for the area if they do not back the Brandywell stadium redevelopment.
This project has already had an economic appraisal completed/submitted to DCAL/assessed etc.
Total support from all local politicians etc
re funding/planning etc could ensure this project starts quickly - thereby providing the immediate capital expenditure needed to kick-start building industry/economy.
I would be very surprised if these comments make any difference but I would like the 4 people who have the top "blog" photographs - or any-one else- to suggest an equivalent "flagship" project for the Brandywell/Letterkenny Rd part of Derry that I can support.

i have been following derry city since the early sixties and the stadium(?) is still a bloody disgrace.
after all the hype of 2006 when everybody jumped on dcfc's bandwagon it would appear that promises made were just so much hot air.
c'mon ,give us a stadium we deserve as n.irelands 2nd city and we can restore some pride to our area.
exile.

I have to agree with the previous blogs and add my own sentiments to what can only be described as a complete failure on the part of all our politicians (Councillors, MLA's, the lot)to address the redevelopment of the historic Brandywell site. The need for this development is well publicised and the potential benefits to the local area and the knock-on benefits to the entire city have been made annually for what to me seems like half a lifetime. The condition of the Brandywell stadium and its lack of basic hygienic facilities is not only an embarrassment it comes fairly close to a breach of basic human rights, under employment law for the employed staff of Derry City FC and for the paying public who have to endure the deprived interior of this excuse for a stadium. This issue needs to become one of the main priorities for regeneration.
