Derry City Council is inviting everyone to get involved in the city's bid for UK City of Culture 2013. To find out more about the bid and what you can do to help log on to www.cityofculture2013.com
The Mayor, Cllr Paul Fleming said: "We are looking for organisations and individuals to come forward to work in partnership with the city to develop and deliver the cultural programme. Everyone has a role to play. There is a strong sense of talent and commitment to our city and region. The City of Culture presents an ideal opportunity to capture and showcase talent and creativity," he said.
"We are keen to get feedback on the proposals and would actively encourage members of the public and the business and community sectors to become part of the bid," he added.
The executive summary, which is available for download on www.cityofculture2013.com, outlines the vision to make culture accessible to all, revive local and international cultural connections and unlock creativity through celebration and inquiry programmes around people, place and past to future. Some of the outline programme ideas include travelling exhibitions, an enhanced festival programme, a Biennale of contemporary visual arts, a series of outdoor concerts, participation events for singing performance and public art and a series of children’s events for creative play.
Chief Executive of Ilex Aideen McGinley, the Town Clerk, Valerie Watts, and many cultural partners have also given their backing to the bid and are encouraging the public to get involved. A successful cultural workshop last week also helped build ideas.

Heres hoping we can pull this off! This city is in desperate need of positive change so hopefully this will be the kickstart we need!
We need to stop talkin bout thins and actually do somethin!
I was part of the SWG group involved in making the Regeneration Plan for the city & let me start by saying how excited I am that Derry~Londonderry (or LegenDerry as my sons call it) is going for the City of Culture 2013. If we can put the plans and ideas we've been working on into action we stand a great chance of winning! The city has so much going for it we just need to all pull together and support the bid! The details of the regeneration plan for the city hasn't been released yet but im sure once they do everyone will jump on board!
